Frequently asked questions
Which pads does my Philips HeartStart need?
It depends on the model. The HS1 uses HS1 adult or HS1 infant/child SMART Pads, the FRx uses SMART Pads II with the FRx Child Key for younger patients, and the FR3 uses SMART Pads III. If you are unsure, send us your model details and we will confirm the right part.
Do the HS1 and FRx use the same battery?
Yes, the HeartStart HS1/FRx battery suits both units. The FR3 uses its own primary battery, which we also supply.
What is the FRx Child Key?
The FRx Child Key is the infant/child key for the HeartStart FRx. Inserting it adjusts the unit's instructions and therapy for younger patients, which is why the FRx uses the same SMART Pads II for adults and children.
Can a Philips trainer deliver a shock?
No, Philips HeartStart trainers cannot deliver a shock and are for AED training only, not for clinical use. They mirror the voice instructions of the real HS1 or FRx so learners can practise the full sequence safely.
Which training pads do I need for my Philips trainer?
Match the training pads to your trainer and decide whether you need a cartridge. We list adult and infant/child training pads for the HeartStart Trainer with or without a cartridge, replacement FRx training pads, and FRx Training Pads II, which place a real FRx into training mode with energy delivery disabled.
Where can I compare the HS1 and FRx defibrillators?
Our Philips HeartStart AEDs page explains the difference between the two units. In short, the HS1 is built for simplicity in workplaces, community groups and homes, while the FRx is a rugged unit suited to demanding and outdoor environments.
